Gary Neville defends Arsenal's performance against Liverpool

Manchester United legend-turned-pundit Gary Neville has said that Arsenal will be able to win several away games this season with the same level of performance displayed in the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The north London side competed effectively with the Reds during the opening 40 minutes of the game but thereafter, things paved the way of the hosts, who unlocked the Gunners' defence on three separate occasions.

In the end, the Capital outfit were able to find some consolation with a goal from Lucas Torreira but it was nonetheless a forgettable day as they returned without a point for the fourth successive visit to Anfield.

Speaking when the Reds were 3-0 up, Neville said that there are plenty of positives to carry forward for the Gunners and their opponents on the day were just too good for them.

The former United defender added that Unai Emery's side will be able to win a number of away matches this term with a similar level of performance showcased at Anfield.

"It’s difficult when you lose 3-0, it feels like you’ve taken a bit of a doing to take positives from it," he told Sky Sports shortly after Mohamed Salah bagged his brace.

"But it feels like a… positive 3-0 defeat, if you could argue that. I’ve seen things today from Arsenal that I quite like. And I think this performance from Arsenal today will win a lot of away games this season."

Arsenal are currently on six points after the opening three games of the new league campaign. They have a home encounter against cross-town rivals Tottenham Hotspur before the international break.
