Manchester United have announced that goalkeeper David de Gea has signed a new contract until the summer of 2023 with the option for an additional year.

  • London club want to sign Chelsea defender

  • Earlier this week, The Times claimed that the Red Devils had found a breakthrough in contract talks with the Spaniard after agreeing on a £250,000-a-week package after tax while waiving off the 25 percent wage cut, should the club fail to qualify for the Champions League.

The contract extension has now been made official by the Red Devils, who have confirmed that the shot-stopper has penned a new four-year contract with a 12-month extension clause.

"David De Gea has signed a new long-term contract with Manchester United, keeping him at the club until at least June 2023. There is an option to extend for a further year," a statement on the club's official website read.

De Gea has looked average with his performances for Manchester United over the past 12 months but the contract renewal could offer him with a boost and enhance his displays on the playing field.

The former Atletico Madrid man was heavily linked with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer but the new contract at Old Trafford has surely ended their prospects of signing the Spaniard next year.
