David Luiz explains reason behind Chelsea departure

Arsenal defender David Luiz has revealed that he had a different point of view to manager Frank Lampard at Chelsea and that contributed towards his departure on transfer deadline day.

  • The Brazil international had signed a new two-year deal with the Blues during the backend of the previous season and he was a regular during the club's pre-season campaign.

However, prior to the Premier League transfer deadline, the centre-back made the surprise move to part ways with the Blues and he eventually joined arch-rivals Arsenal in a deal worth £8m.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, the 32-year-old has now revealed that he could not agree with the future plans of Lampard and that contributed towards pursuing a fresh challenge.

He added that he made the decision to leave the west London giants even before the Gunners came up with an approach to acquire his signature, he told: “We had a different idea of the future of the game and that’s why I chose to take a new path. It’s always very difficult because of the rivalry, but I made the decision to leave Chelsea even before receiving Arsenal’s bid."

Luiz has had a mixed beginning to his career with the Gunners and he has been guilty of conceding a couple of penalties. However, he has somewhat made up for the mistakes after bagging the only goal in the slender win over Bournemouth at the weekend.

Meanwhile, the departure of Luiz has proved a blessing in disguise with the likes of Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori receiving regular gametime. The latter has been the surprise package and his performances have recently been rewarded with a maiden call-up for England duty.
