Arsenal sack Unai Emery from the managerial role

29 November 2019 - 14:03

Arsenal have decided to sack Unai Emery from the head coach role shortly after the club's disappointing Europa League defeat at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The Spanish tactician had been under pressure before the international break with five winless games on the bounce and the trend has continued with the club failing to beat Southampton and Eintracht on their return.

As a result, it seemed a no-brainer to axe him from the managerial position and the Gunners have confirmed the same through an official statement earlier this afternoon.

"We announce today that the decision has been taken to part company with our head coach Unai Emery and his coaching team," a statement read on the club's official website.

Freddie Ljungberg has been handed with the head coach position on a temporary basis but the club are said to be actively looking for a replacement ahead of the congested schedule.

Max Allegri, Nuno Espirito Santo, Mauricio Pochettino and Mikel Arteta are among the leading candidates on the shortlist. Nuno has recently been touted as the favourite for the job.
