Werner tipped to join Liverpool

Liverpool could sign Timo Werner for just £25m

24 February 2020 - 18:59

Liverpool have reportedly been handed with a significant boost in signing Timo Werner from RB Leipzig when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

  • Man Utd to enter race for Chelsea striker target?
  • Chelsea confirm season-ending injury for midfielder

  • The Premier League leaders have been regularly linked with the Germany international over the past year and it was recently indicated that he could be signed for a relatively affordable sum of £48m this summer due to a release clause in his deal.

However, a report from Sport1 claims Werner has a lowly release clause of just £25m on his contract signed earlier in the season and the Reds are leading the race to land his services.

The Germany international has enjoyed another terrific season with Leipzig and he has already amassed 27 goals and eight assists in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit.

He has personally admitted in the past that he is a huge admirer of manager Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool but it remains to be seen whether the potentially reduced gametime at the Reds could hamper the move.

Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are currently the undisputed starters in the frontline under Klopp and Werner may struggle to command a starting role unless the manager opts for a change from the 4-3-3 setup.

Chelsea and Manchester United are some of the other Premier League sides linked with the services of Werner. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also said to be monitoring his situation.
