David Ornstein provides update on Bukayo Saka's contract situation at Arsenal

The Athletic reporter David Ornstein has revealed that Arsenal have yet to finalise a contract extension with academy graduate Bukayo Saka.

  • Saka has impressed with the senior squad during the current campaign and he has bagged three goals and nine assists from 29 outings.

The majority of those appearances have come from the left-back position amid the injury concerns for senior duo Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney.

Saka's existing deal with the capital outfit expires at the end of next season and Ornstein has revealed that there has not been any development in the contract negotiations.

"Nope, didn’t get it done before lockdown despite pushing hard and now all quiet as Arsenal focus on their proposed wage cut negotiations,” Ornstein told.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund are keeping a close eye on the proceedings and Ornstein feels the Gunners will be eager to commit the youngster to a new long-term deal with a significant hike on his £5000-a-week wages.

"They’ll be keen to tie him down asap, especially as he is coveted by many clubs. He only earns £5kpw so can expect a big uplift whatever happens and regardless of the current crisis," he added.

Apart from Saka, the Gunners are in contract talks with a number of other players including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whose deal is scheduled to expire in 14 months' time.
