Arsenal learn about Thomas Partey release clause

03 June 2020 - 21:20

Atletico Madrid have made it clear to Arsenal that they won't sell Thomas Partey this summer unless the £44m release clause in the midfielder's contract is triggered.

  • Serie A striker wants to join Arsenal or Chelsea
  • Mikel Arteta confirms double fitness blow for Man Utd game

  • The Ghana international has more than three years remaining in his current deal with the Spanish outfit but he has been fancied to leave the club due to the affordable buy-out clause.

So far, the Gunners have made no approach to sign him but AS claims that the midfielder is eager to make the move to the Premier League with the north London side this summer.

Atletico have been unsuccessful in their attempt to renew the contract of the 26-year-old but it is claimed that they won't accept anything less than £44m to sanction his sale.

Mikel Arteta's side are currently not in a position to meet the asking price amid the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic and it remains to be seen whether they could recoup funds from player sales.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sokratis, Shkodran Mustafi and Mohamed Elneny have all been fancied to head through the exit door and their departures could provide them with part of the funds for Partey's purchase.
