Manchester United have reportedly made it clear that they won't pay Paul Pogba extortionate wages to commit him to a new long-term deal.
The Frenchman's existing deal was due to expire in June 2021, but that has been extended for another year after United triggered a clause on his contract.
According to ESPN, the midfielder's future is still hanging in the balance with the Red Devils yet to finalise terms over a new long-term contract.
The club are willing to hand Pogba with a pay rise on his current £270,000-a-week wages, but won't break the bank in order to keep hold of him.
Pogba is attracting interest from both Real Madrid and former club Juventus and the latter could be fancied to sign him next summer.
The Bianconeri had planned an approach for his services earlier this year, but cancelled their plans after the financial impact of COVID-19.
They could revive their pursuit in eight months' time where Pogba could be available for a reduced fee, suppose he does not extend his United deal.
