Torres earns Atletico a windfall

14 April 2008 - 13:32

Fernando Torres has landed his previous club Atletico Madrid a nice little windfall as he hit his target of 30 goals for the season. Liverpool agreed to insert a clause in the transfer contract that rewards Atletico for every 15 goals Torres scored.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Now, Torres has scored 30 goals already this season and so has earned Atletico Madrid another £200,000; in total meaning Liverpool have paid out a whopping £400,000 to the Spanish giants.

The striker joined last summer in a bumper £24.5 million deal, and many estimate that over the course of Torres' five year contract the player could cost the Reds as much as £50 million.
