Liverpool wont sign a new centre-back

Liverpool unlikely to sign new centre-back

Liverpool won\'t sign a new centre-back

26 October 2020 - 20:18

Liverpool have no plans of pursuing a new central defender in January despite the long-term injury for Virgil van Dijk.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game

  • The Dutchman is out of contention for most of the season with a knee ligament injury and that has left the Reds with limited options at the heart of the defence.

Joel Matip and Joe Gomez are the other specialist options at Jurgen Klopp\'s disposal, but the former has been out of action of late with a minor muscle injury.

Hence, Fabinho has acted as the makeshift centre-back alongside Gomez in recent games, but the Reds\' hierarchy reportedly have no plans of landing a new centre-back.

Of late, the club have been linked with a possible winter approach for Schalke 04\'s Ozan Kabak, but Liverpool Echo claims that the board have been left mystified by the links.

James Milner is another player, who can fill in the position if required and it appears that Klopp has no guarantee that a new centre-back will arrive at the club at the beginning of 2021.
