Liverpool considering move for Portuguese centre-back?

14 November 2020 - 19:33

Olympiacos defender Ruben Semedo has emerged as a potential target for Liverpool ahead of the January transfer window.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • The reigning England champions are in a central defensive crisis at the moment with Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk set to miss the rest of the season with knee injuries.

Fabinho is capable of filling the void by partnering Joel Matip, but there are concerns over the latter's fitness, particularly with the heavy workload over the next few months.

According to Sic Noticias, the Merseyside giants are weighing up multiple central defensive targets for January and Semedo is one of them being monitored with the view to a mid-season move.

Semedo left Villarreal for Olympiacos in 2019 and he has since accumulated 55 appearances across all competitions for the Greek champions. His performances have earned him a couple of caps for Portugal this year.

It will be interesting to see whether the Reds are prepared to make a suitable offer for his services. Olympiacos are in a strong position to negotiate with more than three years left on his contract.
