Arsenal and Tottenham locked in transfer battle for Marcel Sabitzer

Arsenal and Tottenham will do battle this month to sign Austrian international midfielder Marcel Sabitzer. The 26-year-old, who currently plays for German side RB Leipzig, is considered one of the Bundesliga's best midfield talents and both Spurs and the Gunners are ready to match Leipzig's 55 million euro transfer valuation.

  • Chelsea to make offer for Martin Zubimendi?
  • Tottenham make £85m bid to sign Man City winger

  • RB Leipzig's recent form has been credited to the impressive showings of Sabitzer, with the player bagging two goals just last season in the Champions League against Tottenham. Furthermore, Sabitzer has continued his excellent form in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 3 goals in 10 games so far.

Sabitzer is comfortable playing anywhere in midfield, but his preferred position is in the centre of the park, but can also be deployed as a right winger. Sabitzer has previously played for RB Salzburg, Admira Wacker and Rapid Vienna.

Arsenal are believed to be in prime position to snag Sabitzer's signature, with Mikel Arteta seeking a long-term replacement for Granit Xhaka and Mo Elneny, both of whom have struggled this season at times for the Gunners.

It is understood that Bayern Munich are also closely monitoring the situation of Sabitzer and are readying a transfer bid in the January transfer window.
