Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Thiago Silva picked up a thigh injury against Tottenham Hotspur and that should rule him out of the weekend's clash against Sheffield United.
The Brazil international has been a key figure in the defence since his free transfer in the summer. He has missed just one of the previous 13 league games, but he is now a major doubt to face the Blades.
"It will be very tight for Sunday’s game, only two days recovery,” he told the club’s official website.
"It is too early to give a diagnosis because I saw him very briefly with a big strap around his muscle.
"We will have to wait until tomorrow so we can confirm it but I think for Sunday he is a big doubt."
The 36-year-old sustained the injury after the 30th-minute mark and he was soon after substituted with Andreas Christensen taking his place in the three-man backline.
The Dane may continue to fill the void at Bramall Lane on Sunday night with Kurt Zouma, who has regularly partnered Silva, also doubtful for the game with a knock.
Chelsea jumped to sixth on the league table after a 1-0 win over Spurs. They are currently four points behind Liverpool, who are occupying the final Champions League position.
