Things looking grim for Fulham

Things looking grim for Fulham

19 April 2008 - 16:08

Liverpool hammered a huge nail into the Premiership coffin of Fulham tonight thanks to a 2-0 victory over the Cottagers at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon; with goals from Jermaine Pennant and Peter Crouch.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Everything looked to be in favour of Fulham as this game started. The visitors named a second-string line-up, the crowd were voicing their encouragement, and the momentum came under their control.

Moments after Peter Crouch had flashed a header just wide, a quick exchange of passes in midfield between Javier Mascherano and Lucas Leiva allowed Pennant to accelerate past Brede Hangeland and fire a right-footed shot past Kasey Keller from a tight angle.

Brian McBride and David Healy both had decent chances to execute volleyed efforts, but fluffed the opportunties presented to them. They would not get many more chances after that.

20 minutes from time Crouch put the game beyond the reach of the Reds' struggling hosts when the England international gleefully collected Pennant's pass and fired a low shot through Keller's legs.

Relegation looks almost certain now for Fulham who have taken 27 points this season and currently sit 2nd from bottom.
