Arsenal to trigger Matteo Guendouzi extension clause

Guendouzi's contract to be extended before he is sold

Arsenal to trigger Matteo Guendouzi extension clause

05 June 2021 - 20:48

Arsenal are prepared to trigger an extension clause in the contract of midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, L'Equipe claims.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Guendouzi was loaned out to Hertha Berlin last season after falling out-of-favour under manager Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners boss has not changed his stance, and the Frenchman is expected to be sold in the coming months.

Guendouzi's current deal expires in June 2022, but there is a clause to extend his contract for another 12 months.

The club are expected to trigger the option before placing him in the market for the summer transfer window.

Marseille are interested in signing the former Lorient man, and it is claimed that a £10m fee could be sufficient.

Guendouzi was dropped by Arteta during the backend of the 2019/2020 season following his altercation with Neal Maupay.

The midfielder grabbed the Frenchman by the neck for a brief moment, but he escaped any kind of punishment from the FA.

It has still cost him with Arteta reluctant to reintegrate him into the squad.
