Chelsea and Liverpool have been credited with an interest in signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
Saul has been touted to leave the Spanish champions this summer after the arrival of Rodrigo De Paul from Udinese.
He is valued at around £40 million, and Sport claims that both Chelsea and Liverpool are in contact with his agent.
The Blues are eyeing a fourth central midfielder in their ranks after N'Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.
They recently loaned out Billy Gilmour. Conor Gallagher could also leave on loan while Ruben Loftus-Cheek may be sold.
Meanwhile, the Reds are actively searching for a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who left on a free transfer to PSG.
The Merseyside giants are best placed to sign Saul with the assurance of a regular starting role in the Premier League.
Manchester United have also been linked with Saul, but he is no longer their prime target. Their focus is on Rennes' Eduardo Camavinga.
