Arsenal to pursue new midfielder in January?

01 October 2021 - 20:44

Arsenal are contemplating the purchase of a new midfielder in January after the injury setback for Granit Xhaka.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • Xhaka picked up medial ligament injury against Tottenham Hotspur, and he has been sidelined for three months.

However, there are no assurances that he will return to action immediately, and could miss few more weeks.

According to football.london, the Gunners may look for a new midfielder when the transfer window reopens.

They currently have Mohamed Elneny, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ainsley Maitland-Niles to partner Thomas Partey.

Both Partey and Elneny could be absent for the whole of January due to African Cup of Nations participation.

That would leave the club with an inexperienced duo of Lokonga and Maitland-Niles in the centre of the park.

An injury could lead to a potential crisis. There is speculation that the hierarchy may have to spend mid-season.

Charlie Patino has made a huge impression for the Under 23s, but he is unlikely to make his breakthrough this term.

Miguel Azeez could be recalled from his Portsmouth loan, but he is also inexperienced with just one senior game for the club.
