He has since refused to re-open contract negotiations, and Marca claims that he is now close to joining the Catalan giants.
The centre-back has entered the final six months of his deal, and talks are underway over a possible pre-contract.
Christensen is convinced that the Blaugrana are the right club for him going forward, and he could soon sign for them.
Bayern Munich have also been linked with his services, but the 25-year-old has his sights on joining Xavi Hernandez's side.
Meanwhile, he could be joined at the Blaugrana by Cesar Azpilicueta, who has yet to renew his contract with the Blues.
Azpilicueta's deal also expires in the summer. He is keen on a multi-year renewal, and could leave the club after a decade.
