Thomas Tuchel provides injury update on Chelsea duo

18 February 2022 - 19:36

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has provided an injury update on Mason Mount and Reece James ahead of the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Mount recently picked up an ankle ligament injury in the Club World Cup final which saw him substituted in the opening half.

It was initially feared that he could be sidelined for an extended period, but Tuchel has now provided a positive injury update.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Tuchel said that Mount could make his comeback for the Carabao Cup final.

He told Chelseafc.com: "We will push for the League Cup final. He has injured ligaments in the very first minutes of the [Club World Cup] final unfortunately."

Meanwhile, the London derby will also come too soon for Reece James, who has yet to return to team training after his hamstring injury.

He was on course to face the Eagles, but the progress has been delayed after a bout of flu. He appears doubtful for the League Cup final.

Chelsea are presently third in the league standings with 47 points, 16 behind leaders Manchester City, who have played one game more.
