Jurgen Klopp rejects Darwin Nunez price tag claim

Nunez - price claims are wide of the mark according to Klopp

Jurgen Klopp rejects Darwin Nunez price tag claim

15 July 2022 - 08:09

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shrugged off suggestions that the club overpaid for striker Darwin Nunez during this summer football transfer window. Reports suggested that Uruguayan forward Nunez would be the most expensive player in the club's history, but Klopp dismissed these claims as inaccurate.

  • Man Utd eye loan move for Chelsea defender
  • Inter Milan now want to sign Chelsea playmaker

  • According to various reports, Liverpool paid an up front fee of £64 million plus a further £30 million in add-ons, however it is understood that this is wide of the mark and Klopp has confirmed this in a discussion with the media.

“The numbers [regarding Nunez] you are telling are not right, but it’s not a problem – I know which kind of number is going around in the world out there," said Klopp.

“When you want to sign a striker as exciting as Darwin is, that’s the market and you have to pay the price.

“As I said, it’s not the price you mentioned and not the prices going around, but it’s no problem.”

The striker will likely replace Sadio Mane in Liverpool's first team this coming season.
