Manchester United are making progress in signing Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz, according to Rai Sport.
The Red Devils have focused on landing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona in recent weeks, but he is reluctant to join.
This could force them to pursue an alternative, and Rai Sport claim that United are in talks with Ruiz's representatives.
Ruiz has been long linked with a Premier League move, and he could make the switch during the current transfer window.
His first preference was to join either Real Madrid or Barcelona, but the La Liga giants are no longer looking at him.
With less than a year left on his contract, Napoli are willing to sell. United have the chance of landing him on a cut-price deal.
Ruiz has also been linked with Premier League rivals Arsenal in the past, but they are prioritising a move for Youri Tielemans.
The Leicester City star has agreed personal terms with the Gunners. A formal offer could be made over the coming days.
