Douglas Luiz has surprisingly turned his back on a potential move to Arsenal, instead deciding to put pen to paper on a new contract with Aston Villa. The Brazilian holding midfielder has long been linked with a transfer move to the Emirates Stadium, but has now opted to stay with Villa for another campaign.
With Douglas Luiz's contract expiring in the summer of 2023, Villa have moved swiftly to sign the player to a new contract. Arsenal made a £25 million bid last summer for the Brazilian, and Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard was insistent that the midfielder should stay at Villa Park.
Fast forward to October, an agreement has been reached and Luiz will stay with the struggling Premier League outfit.
Arsenal's fortune has taken a massive turn for the better, with the Gunners riding high in 1st place in the Premier League, four points clear of Tottenham and Manchester City.
However, they are just one injury away from losing their star player Thomas Partey, would could leave a gap in the midfielder that the North London outfit had hoped that Douglas Luiz would fill.
