Manchester City and Paris St Germain are in the race to sign Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy, who is apparently surplus to requirements at the La Liga giants. The French left-back arrived at Real with a big reputation in 2019, but has failed to live up to expecations and could now be sold in a cut price deal worth around £20 million.
It is understood that when Lyon sold Mendy to Real Madrid in 2019, the total package was 55 million euros, with 48 million euros paid up front. Real want to recoup some of that money with a potential sale of the former Le Havre defender, who has nine caps to his name for the French national team.
Pep Guardiola wants to add some defensive reinforcements to his squad, as Kyle Walker heads into the twilight years of his career, and Joao Cancelo requires backup for the second half of the season. PSG, on the other hand, have plenty of coverage in defence but want to sign Mendy as their primary January transfer target.
Man City seem to be in pole position to land the left sided defender, and have apparently already agreed a fee with the Bernabeu side.
