Elias Jelert

FC Copenhagen have an emerging talent within their ranks in right-back Elias Jelert, the 20-year-old defender that has caught the eye in his first full season as a starting XI member of the club's side. Now a full Denmark international, the player continues to catch the eye in the Danish Superliga.

  • Elias first moved to Copenhagen in 2014 as an 11-year-old, and has now gone on to play over 50 times in the top flight for his side. His impressive performances have caught the eye of Newcastle United, who could see Jelert as an alternative to Kieran Trippier, but also Chelsea are rumoured to be considering a move for the Dane, despite having plenty of squad depth with Malo Gusto and Reece James.

In the Champions League this season, in which Copenhagen share a group with Manchester United, Jelert has particularly caught the eye with his 84.5 percent passing accuracy and an average of five ball recoveries per match.

It is Elias' physical attributes that makes him such an interesting prospect for various top sides. He has rapid acceleration, great pace and lots of stamina. Copenhagen are currently working on improving his strength on the ball, with a plan to also help the defender improve his passing ability. He is far from the finished product, and will only improve with time, but it is his balance, agility and pace that makes him such a wonderful talent.

Jelert prefers playing as a right-back, but can also fill in at left-back. He has the ability of a winger, but prefers to operate as a defensive-minded player.  One to keep an eye on for the future.
