Aston Villa have made an initial approach to sign Icelandic goalkeeper Hákon Valdimarsson from Swedish club Elfsborg, as the 22-year-old has been lined up as a backup keeper for current number 1 shot stopper Emi Martinez. Valdimarsson has caught the eye in the Allsvenskan since moving to Elfsborg in 2021, and scouts have been monitoring the progress of the keeper who has five caps to his name.
The 22-year-old came through the ranks at KR before moving to Grotta as a youth player. After 65 league appearances for his club, Elfsborg signed the player for a nominal fee in 2021.
Both Aston Villa and FC Copenhagen have been linked with moves for the player, and the keeper is reportedly a little concerned that a move to the Premier League would likely bring about less first-team football, at least for the time being, particularly as World Cup winning goalkeeper Martinez is considered one of the world's best.
It is understood that Elfsborg would sell Valdimarsson for a fee around £2.4 million and the player has 18 months remaining on his current deal.
