Txiki: Barca close to Pique

Txiki: Barca close to Pique

19 May 2008 - 22:46

Despite recent attempts from Sir Alex Ferguson to rebuff claims that his young Spanish defender is leaving Old Trafford, it has been confirmed today that he is heading back to Catalunya.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • It has been reported in many Spanish sources that Gerard Pique could be heading back to the Blaugrana, and today Sporting Director Txiki Bergiristain, has all but confirmed these reports.

After confirming that negotiations with the player were already at the advanced stages, he went on to add:

"I can't deny that he is one of the players we're interested in, but he is involved in the Champions League final so things are on hold."

Pique is expected to seal the move back to his boyhood club within the next two weeks for the figure of sum €4 million. Although he is not considered to be as bad as Cesc Fabregas (for leaving the club that raised him on a free transfer) there will be certain Barcelona fans who are not too happy to see the teenager return home.
