UEFA change yellow card policy

UEFA change yellow card policy

20 May 2008 - 22:46

UEFA have for once decided to make a popular move by changing their policy on yellow cards accumulated after the group stages.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Martin Keown praises complete Arsenal star after Bournemouth win

  • Previously, if a player was booked in both the quarter and semi-finals then he was forced to miss the final game. Now however, UEFA have decided that all yellow cards will be scrubbed after the quarter-final matches, meaning that players will only miss the final through a straight red in the previous game.

UEFA supremo Michel Platini was delighted that the committee had passed the ruling:

"It is based on a footballing decision and I am happy the executive committee gave their unanimous approval for it. It means the fans should be able to see the best players in the final, as long as they do not pick up two yellow cards or get sent off in the semi-final."
