Baris Yilmaz has emerged as a surprise target for Premier League giants Arsenal, as the Gunners seek a backup to star player Bukayo Saka. Yilmaz was an important member of Turkey's Euro 2024 squad and has appeared 20 times for his country, with the 24-year-old currently playing for Galatasaray since 2021.
An impressive season in 2023-24 for Galatasaray in the Super Lig saw the winger score six goals in 37 games. Yilmaz helped Galatasaray to two consecutive league titles in 2022-23 and 2023-24, but is now set for a new challenge elsewhere.
Dozens of teams have been in contact with Galatasaray regarding Yilmaz's availability, including newly promoted Leicester City and German club Werder Bremen. German champions Bayer Leverkusen have also been credited with an interest in the 6 foot 1 winger.
With Arsenal set to sell Eddie Nketiah and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale before the transfer window closes, new players are needed and Yilmaz ticks all of the boxes. The Gunners seem to be happy with Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz leading the line in attack, whilst the arrival of Mikel Merino will add valuable cover in midfield.
