Manchester United could make a surprise swoop for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams next year, according to Fichajes.
The Red Devils spent close to £200 million on new signings this summer, but they have yet to impress in the Premier League.
The club finished eighth in the top-flight last term and they have been disappointing this campaign with only seven points so far.
United are already six points adrift of the top four and their game in hand against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday is a must-win.
Amidst this, Fichajes claim that the club are eyeing an ambitious move for Williams and they are planning to beat Barcelona to his services.
Williams is aware of the long-standing interest from the La Liga giants, but United are optimistic of luring him to Old Trafford instead.
He has a low release clause of £48 million in his contract, but could demand a weekly wage package in the region of £300,000.
This is well within the affordability range of United. The club are likely to face competition from Arsenal, who are long-term admirers too.
