Manchester United made a huge bid to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson during the summer transfer window, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Red Devils were hot on the trail for a new defensive midfielder last summer and Ederson was apparently one of the top names on their radar.
United signed Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day, but reports claim that they offered around €55m to land Ederson from Atalanta.
The Serie A outfit swiftly rejected the proposal from the Red Devils. The club believe Ederson is just entering the prime of his playing career.
The Bergamo side feel Ederson is worth more than €70m and they are prepared to keep him for the remainder of the campaign at least.
Ederson has the dream of playing in the Premier League and it is left to be seen whether United return for his services next summer.
They could realistically do so with plans to offload Casemiro as well as Christian Eriksen at the end of the ongoing campaign.
