24 May 2008 - 12:51

Reports emanating from Bulgaria suggest that the Bulgarian legend Hristo Stoichkov is set to become the assistant coach of FC Barcelona as early as next week.

  • Predicted Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Crystal Palace, Evans starts
  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal

  • The Bulgarian newspaper "Meridian Mach" reports that its "secrte sources" claim that the former Barcelona striker was on the verge of putting pen to paper on a deal that shall make him at the assistant coach of the Blaugrana.

The paper reports that Barcelona have already offered the 42-year old the job and that Stoichkov has already verbally accepted the offer. It also suggests that he shall fly to Barcelona in the next few days to sign the papers.

Hristo Stoichkov's coaching career so far isn't too impressive though. He was in charge of the Bulgarian national team for three years without much success and in a short stint with the Spanish side Celta de Vigo was unable to stave off relegation of the Cecilian side into the Segunda Division.

Hristo Stoichkov is a former teammate of Barcelona's next coach Josep Guardiola and are said to be god friends from their time together at Camp Nou during Johan Cruiff's "Dream Team" era.
