Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike has rejected Manchester United to join Liverpool, according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins.
The Red Devils made contact with the striker's entourage earlier this summer and it was claimed that they could make a formal bid.
However, the Reds are now leading the hunt for the player. They have already agreed terms with the former Paris Saint-Germain star.
Negotiations are underway with Frankfurt regarding the transfer fee. Ekitike has snubbed United to join their arch-rivals instead.
The decision does not come as a surprise. Liverpool won their second Premier League title last term while United finished 15th in the table.
Liverpool will be playing Champions League football while United are not in Europe after losing the Europa League final against Tottenham.
United are still on the hunt for a new marksman and it has been claimed that Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins could be an option for the Red Devils.
The Englishman is open to a new challenge away from Villa Park.
