Chelsea have identified Manchester United graduate Alvaro Carreras as a possible replacement for Marc Cucurella this summer.
The Blues recently sanctioned Cucurella's move to Los Blancos, and they now need to fill the void with a new left-back signing.
The club are yet to find a top target, but reports in Spain claim that they are exploring a move for Madrid left-back Carreras.
The Spaniard only joined Los Blancos from Benfica last summer, but he has been linked with an exit after Cucurella's arrival.
Madrid spent around £43m to land the youngster and may want to recoup the sum and secure a profit to sanction his departure.
Carreras never got the opportunity to prove himself at United and could be tempted to return to the Premier League this summer.
It remains to be seen whether the Blues follow up their interest with a formal bid for the Spanish ace in the coming days.
Newcastle United's Lewis Hall is another player on their radar.
