Steven Gerrard's 75th minute penalty was enough for Liverpool to pick up another victory and to ride the Premiership wave as they defeated Portsmouth 1-0 at Anfield on Wednesday.
It took a long time for the goal to come, but when it did, Gerrard - as cool as a cucumber - stepped up to fire home from the penalty spot.
But it was not all doom and gloom for Pompey - coached by Tony Adams - as the side showed they can still compete with the best.
It could've been 1-0 to Liverpool early on from Dirk Kuyt, but David James turned the ball raound the post.
Xabi Alonso nearly went close on a couple of occasions in the first half, whilst Pompey saw more of the ball as Sean Davids found Papa Boupa Diop, who missed a sitter that should've been a goal.
Carragher also nearly got on the scoresheet, firing close from 25 yards at David James.
After half time, Portsmouth looked the better side. Liverpool couldn't get any possession and should've really been looking to break Tony Adams' side's offside trap which held their guard.
Rafa Benitez threw on Yossi Benayoun, but the Reds could not manage to find the breakthrough..
However, the captain Steven Gerrard would ge this chance after Papa Boupa Diop handballed in the area on 75 minutes, and the England midfielder Gerrard fired home.
The Reds held on as Jermain Defoe went close, and hung on for a very important three points.
