Wenger: No rush to spend

Wenger: No rush to spend

25 September 2007 - 16:56

Amidst reports that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has £70m to spend on new players, the Frenchman has stated that he is very happy with his young squad and will not sign a player just for the sake of it.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao
  • When asked if Arsenal would be opening their chequebook in January to sign some new players, Arsene replied, "Only if it's needed.

"The money is there to help you create a good team. When you feel that you have a good team you do not necessarily need to spend it.

"At a big club like ours you need funds available for emergency cases, like if you have a lot of injuries. Or if at some stage you need to make a quick buy therefore you have to use the money as wisely as possible."

"I think they are the priorities at the club (the sporting side at Arsenal), we want to focus on what is important on the pitch and knowing if we do that well the finances will follow.

"I'm happy that we've got a good operating profit, but operating profit is not profit. It shows that the turnover of the club is fantastic and that we have made a step forward by moving into the new stadium."
