Pienaar sees off Tottenham

Pienaar sees off Tottenham

30 November 2008 - 18:28

Everton winger Steven Pienaar brought Tottenham back down to earth as his goal gave the Toffees a well earned 1-0 victory over Spurs at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.

  • Arsenal preparing third bid for Spanish star
  • Chelsea ready to sell Christopher Nkunku to Man Utd for £35m?

  • It wasn't all great for Everton though, who lost star striker Yakubu to injury after he ruptured his Achilles tendon.

Everton started the game well, and Fellaini fizzed a ball in for Gomes who stood well to take the ball.

Then Tom Huddlestone could've opened the scoring, but sent the ball well wide after drilling the ball with his right peg.

Everton could've easily conceeded an own goal, as Phil Jagielka almost sent a David Bentley free kick into his own net.

Just before half time, Louis Saha had a great opportunity to open the scoring, but Gomes stood strong.

After the break, Everton took the lead as a Mikel Arteta free kick was looped in for Pienaar, who struck the ball well, then the deflection went past a stranded Gomes.

Pienaar nearly made it two for Everton and himself, but Gomes made a stunning stop.

Towards the end, Roman Pavlyuchenko had a wonderful chance to level, but Tim Howard stood strong.

On loan striker Fraizer Campbell then had the final chance but his shot deflected wide.

A great result for Everton - despite the disappointment of losing Yakubu for the season.
