Man United close in on title

Man United close in on title

14 May 2009 - 03:42

Manchester United moved within one point of securing the Premiership title, after goals from Michael Carrick and Carlos Tevez late on secured a 2-1 victory over Wigan at the JJB Stadium last night.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Hugo Rodallega gave Wigan a lead in the first half, and the Latics looked to be heading towards a memorable win until the 61st minute.

That is when Carlos Tevez, long wrangling with club boss Alex Ferguson over a permanent contract at Old Trafford, showed more of his stunning ability.

United crossed in the ball from the right, before the little Argentinian scored an outrageous goal with his back heel. The goal was wonderful; a combination of flair and remarkable quick thinking from Tevez.

The celebrations from the United boys indicated that they felt they were a step closer to securing another Premiership title.

However, the job wasn't complete, and Michael Carrick scored another quality goal with four minutes left on the clock.

He picked the ball up from outside of the area, and launched the ball into the top left corner past the Wigan keeper from 20 yards.

Celebration ensued, and United now look to have wrapped up the Premiership with just one point left to secure their title.
