Arsenal will need to pay 9m for Mertesacker

Arsenal have been told to cough up 9m GBP if they want to sign Germany international centre back Per Mertesacker from Werder Bremen.

Arsenal are on the look out for a new centre back and have been linked with a move for Bolton defender Gary Cahill and Everton's Phil Jagielka.

So far, no fee has been agreed with either club. Wenger has therefore turned his attentions to Europe and Per Mertesacker has been told he can leave the club if the Gunners match Bremen's 9m GBP valuation.
