Wenger: Arsenal still need time to progress

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger knows that his team's title chances are limited, but his site have built a togetherness despite a very disappointing start to the season.

The Gunners lie 11th in the table after picking up only 10 points from their 8 games and look significantly weakened by the departures of star men Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

Wenger believes that it is too early to be talking about the title and that his team must concentrate first on getting back to a stronger position.

“It is still too far [to talk about the title],” he told his club's official website. “We have to be realistic and first come back to a stronger position.

“I believe that the team is getting stronger, so let's focus on just that and be humble enough to make sure we have no regrets. Are we good enough or not? We will see in May.

“What has happened in the last few months is that Arsenal qualified for the 14th time in the Champions League.

“It is a club respected all over the world and one of the few that lives with a really healthy financial situation. At the moment when the whole world is bankrupt there is nothing to be ashamed of that we have not done well enough.

“Last year we were very close to having an exceptional season. That's part of the game.”

Although there seems to be a crisis on the pitch, Wenger has claimed that his squad are still together and as close as ever.

"Football is difficult if you are not united," Wenger added. "When you are not it becomes impossible.

"One strength we do have here is that we are united and we can fight against adversity. When you are at a big club you have to have the mental strength to fight against that. There are periods when people say you are much better than you are and periods when people say you are much worse than you are.

"People forget that we had to go through a very difficult period with transfers. We had to give absolutely everything to qualify against Udinese and every time we paid a heavy price after that in the championship.

"I would like to show you some critics after the Newcastle game when we drew 0-0. We got slaughtered, played with 10 men, Newcastle are unbeaten and nobody talks about it.

"We were playing in a very difficult environment from the start onwards and that is not easy for players who come to this club."
