Queens Park Rangers could make a surprise entry into the Asian transfer market with a move for Selangor midfielder Mohd Safiq Rahim. The Malaysian national team star is very highly rated in his home country, and QPR could make a shock move in January.

QPR chairman and owner Tony Fernandes has decided that he must improve the commercial and financial reach of the club into Asia in order to make his team a success.

Neil Warnock has been recommended Rahim by Fernandes' representatives, and the player is reportedly set for a January trial period to spend time with the first team.

Whether or not the player will be part of the first team squad remains to be seen, but the 24 year old has been a goalscoring revelation for his Malaysian side, where he plays in attacking midfield and not only does he contribute with assists, but in front of goal as well.

Selangor value the midfielder at around 180,000 GBP but a trial period is expected prior to any permanent deal.

There seems to be some interest from Premier League clubs in Malaysia at the moment, with several clubs making pre-season tours in the country, where English football is incredibly popular.

Mohd is currently undergoing a trial with another British club, as Cardiff City still have one more week to take a look at the midfielder.

Baddrol Bakhtiar, another Malaysian international, has also been linked with a move to the Premier League and Wigan are believed to be preparing a trial for the player.
