Pires welcomes Australian interest
Arsenal legend Robert Pires has stated that even at the age of 38, he is willing to consider any offer that comes his way from down under.
Pires was an integral part of Arsene Wenger's 'Invincibles' and won three FA Cups and two Premier League titles during his time at the club. He was an excellent goalscoring midfielder, scoring more than 10 goals in every season at Arsenal except his first.
He moved to Villareal in 2006 but failed to replicate the form he had at Arsenal as age caught up to him. After a brief 6 month stint at Aston Villa in the 2010-11 season, he was released this summer and is now on the lookout for another team.
The French winger, in an interview with Fox Sports FC, claimed that he would consider a move to Australia.
"Why not? It's a great country," Pires said. "If I go to Australia it's a new experience, a new challenge."
Sydney FC had tried to sign him two years ago, while he was still at Villareal. However, he refused the offer but has said that he might consider it now.
"At that moment I preferred to stay in Europe," he said.
"Now, if I have an opportunity with Australia I need to think about it."
