Everton's new signing Nikica Jelavic has denied reports that he forced Rangers to sell him to the Premier League side during the January transfer window. Jelavic moved to Goodison Park for a reported 7 million transfer fee.

Jelavic responded to comments from Rangers' operations officer Ali Russell, who insisted that the Croatian international demanded to be sold.

The striker responded to those comments, insisting that he would have stayed at Rangers if he had to do so.

"I never forced my transfer. I spoke with my manager, Ally McCoist, and I said to him 'if the president wants me to stay, I'll stay'," said Jelavic.

"'If he wants me to leave, if they need money, I'll leave - no problem'."
