Rafa Benitez keen on Chelsea role

Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has admitted that he would be interested in taking over at Chelsea. The Blues are currently on the look out for a new coach since firing Andre Villas-Boas last week, and Roberto di Matteo is current interim first team manager.

Benitez's record is exceptional with his previous clubs Liverpool and Valencia, but after a poor spell at Inter Milan, the Spaniard has since been without a job.

But the Spanish coach admitted that a move to Chelsea would appeal. Benitez said: "What are they [Chelsea] looking for? Champions of Europe.

"So if they have someone that can guarantee that they will win a lot of games, especially in the Champions League, I think they will be happy.

"I have said before many times that I would like to find a top side that can match my desire to win trophies so people were linking me with Chelsea and there were rumours about meetings.

"I didn't have a proper offer on the table. There is no rush as I have been waiting since I left Inter just analysing football and waiting for the right offer."
