S.L. Benfica has denied any level of talks with any club interested in the purchase of their forward Oscar Cardozo. Earlier Fenerbahce was strongly linked with the transfer of the Paraguayan internatonal.

Benfica had a tremendous campaign last season in all the formats, except for their defeat against Braga in the semi-finals of the Taca da Liga and against Chelsea in the finals of Europa League. Benfica also lost 2-1 to Vitoria Guimaraes in the biggest game of Taca de Portugal, thus pushing them down to a number 2. In the Liga, they failed to seize the pole position by a mere point, winning 24 out of 30 games.

It wouldn’t be right to marginalise the efforts of the 30 year old as the forward scored 17 goals in the Premeira Liga last season, thus driving a lot of club's interest in him.

Fenerbahce, the club based in Istanbul, was one such club rumoured to be extremely conscious about Cardozo's market status. But as reports flow from the Portuguese club's official website, Benfica seems to quash all such rumours.

"We would like to inform you that Oscar Cardozo is a Benfica player"

"And at this time there has been no contact with any other club about him."

Recently, after the 2-1 Portuguese Cup debacle, things got ugly between Cardozo and the coach Jorge Jesus but Cardozo was forced to apologise for his behaviour but the Portuguese outfit insists that the incident has no role to play in the transfer gossips about Cardozo and that Cardozo, himself, has no intention of making an exit from the club.
