Sagna Keen To Stay At Arsenal

Bacary Sagna, amidst all the reports linking him to an early Arsenal exit this year, insists that he has no such intentions and he is in talks over a new contract at Emirates Stadium.

The French defender has strongly been linked with a transfer move to the French Ligue 1, where the affluent clubs Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco are willing to sign him for the coming season. But now the full-back has downplayed all such reports, assuring the Gunners of his loyalty for yet another season.

Sagna has been in England for last six years and his contract expires next year. The Gunners would be mindful of this situation as they would be reluctant to let him leave as a free agent next year, leaving them with nothing. They would be relieved to know that the defender is willing for a contract renewal though.

“We are still talking (about a new contract)”, he told the Gulf News.

Bacary also acknowledged the club’s role in shaping his career. He added, "I never said I wanted to leave the club, but there are some journalists who want to speculate as I have just one year to go.

"The fact is that I am still at Arsenal and I am looking forward to playing next season.”

Sagna has been with the club in hard times, without winning silverwares for eight years. He expects this dry spell to end soon, given the quality of the team they have.

"I strongly believe we have the quality to be the best in the Premiership. If not, look at the second half of last season, where we got 26 points from a possible 30. Not a lot of teams can do this and this is what makes me believe we can beat anyone."
