Ambitious Southampton have agreed a fee with Celtic for the transfer of Kenyan international Victor Wanyama. After many impressive performances for the Scottish champions last year, it appears that the defensive midfielder will now make a move to England.

The deal will net Celtic a massive £10m profit for a player they signed for only £900,000 from Belgian side Beerschot just two years ago. Wanyama is heading to England this weekend to discuss personal terms with the Saints, who have already secured the signing of Croatia international Dejan Lovren this month.

Impressive performances for Celtic this year in Europe and in the domestic competition saw the player linked with a host of Premier League teams. The likes of Aston Villa and Arsenal were both in the race to sign the 21-year-old's signature, but Southampton appear to have wrapped up a deal instead. The Saints, managed by Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, are backed by wealthy owners and have a reported £30 million transfer budget for new players this month. The signing of Wanyama will be a major boost for Southampton, who are spending big to ensure they secure Premier League survival for the forseeable future.
