Atletico Madrid Set Sight On Olivier Giroud

According to a report in Le10Sport, Atletico Madrid have surprisingly targeted Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud as a replacement for Radamel Falcao.

Radamel Falcao moved to super-rich Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco earlier this summer from Atletico, who sold the forward for £50m. In a bid to find an ideal replacement for him, Atletico have now reportedly turned their attention towards Giroud.

The 26-year-old has been capped 19 times for France and scored thrice for them. On club level, he managed to net 17 goals in all competitions for the north London club.Giroud has been with the Gunners for only a year, following a switch from 2012 Ligue 1 champions Montpellier in a deal worth £10.6m.

The France international would definitely feel the threat being posed to his first-team chances, as Arsenal are reportedly linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain. An offer from Spain, under such circumstances, might interest the striker.

Atletico have also been linked with moves for Valencia’s Roberto Soldado, Barcelona’s David Villa and Manchester City forward Edin Dzeko in order to fill the void created by Falcao’s departure but Olivier Giroud appears to be one of the major targets for the Spanish outfit.
