Will Arsenal pay £37m for Gonzalo Higuain?

During the start of the summer transfer window, it looked all but certain that the Real Madrid striker would be at the Emirates for the pre-season. The chances of that to occur has diminished over the past few weeks as Arsenal are looking for options elsewhere with the likes of Liverpool's Luiz Suarez set as the main target.

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis recently tweeted that the Serie A club were working a way out to bring Higuain as well as Damiao to Naples. The new Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelloti has told both Arsenal and Napoli that they would have to match a fee of £37m for the striker to take him away from the Bernabeu.

Napoli may end up becoming favourites as they recently sold Edinson Cavani at his release clause of  £53m. Madrid are aware of this and summed up their offer for Higuain. Arsene Wenger is unlikely to accept that the Argentine International is worth the fee asked by the La Liga giants, which would explain Arsenal's change of attitude towards Luis Suarez in recent weeks.

It looks like Real Madrid will only sell Higuain if they can fine a guaranteed replacement, and are also monitoring Luiz Suarez. It remains to see where this transfer saga heads to.
