Darren Bent transfer to Newcastle falls through

Aston Villa forward Darren Bent will not be joining Newcastle after talks between the two clubs fell through last night. It is understood that Bent's representatives were left disappointed after Newcastle were unable to match Bent's existing package at Villa.

Bent has been looking for a new club all summer after being told there is no future for him at Villa Park with first choice striker Christian Benteke recently signing a new contract.


Last summer Bent had been linked with a move to Fulham but a deal failed to materialise, it is understood that the Cottagers could yet make another bid for the England international and sign the forward on a loan deal.
