Seattle Sounders Confirm Dempsey Signing
Seattle Sounders have sealed the signing of Tottenham forward Clint Dempsey. The deal was expected to be completed after Tottenham revealed on Saturday that the American international is set for a return to MLS.
Dempsey will move back to his homeland after spending just one season at the White Hart Lane. He joined Spurs a year ago from Fulham in a £6million deal.
The 30-year-old scored 12 goals in 43 appearances for the north London outfit last season, but coach Andre Villas-Boas is happy to offload him.
Dempsey last played in his homeland for New England Revolution in 2006. His return to MLS has excited the Sounders. The club owner Joe Roth confirmed the deal on the official club website:
"This is a historic day for Sounders FC and our fans. Clint is a world-class soccer player who can take this club to a higher level."
